Massage Therapy

T.J. Samson Community Hospital is happy to add massage to our professional therapeutic menu. Once considered a luxury or alternative medicine, it is often part of a patient’s standard treatment plan for various medical conditions.

Most are aware of the benefits of massage with regards to stress reduction, pain management, and muscle tension. More recently, however, some studies have concluded that massage is also beneficial for treatment of:
  • Anxiety
  • Digestive disorders
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Headaches
  • Insomnia related to stress
  • Myofascial pain syndrome
  • Paresthesias and nerve pain
  • Soft tissue strains or injuries
  • Sports injuries
  • Temporomandibular joint pain

In addition, many patients appreciate the caring touch of our licensed massage therapists (LMTs).

While more and more conclusive evidence supports massage therapy for treatment, there are some situations where massage could have the opposite effect:
  • Bleeding disorders or blood-thinning medication
  • Burns
  • Open or healing wounds
  • Deep-vein thrombosis
  • Fractures
  • Severe osteoporosis
  • Severe thrombocytopenia

Therefore, it is essential to discuss the benefits and risks of massage with your physician. Review your medical history and your current medical condition, especially if you are pregnant or have cancer or unexplained pain.
