Volunteering—Auxiliary Volunteer Services
The auxiliary volunteer services at T.J. Samson Community Hospital has been functioning since 1968 and became a charter with the Kentucky Hospital Association in 1969, thanks to the dedication of Ginnie Ruggles and three other women. Our purpose is to render service to the hospital, patients and visitors while assisting the hospital in promoting the health and welfare of the community in accordance with the objectives established by the institution.
The auxiliary volunteers participate in a wide range of activities such as escorting visitors, delivering patient mail, and distributing auxiliary provided magazines and newspapers. We have an information desk located at the south entrance of the hospital to help visitors with hospital information. We also have another information desk located on the second floor by the telemetry elevator to give directions and assistance. Our beautician is available to patients that require hair cuts, perms, wash and sets. Our gift shop, which has new items arriving daily, is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Our volunteers are also present at the Educational Resource Center where we answer phones, field questions and provide information. Within the community you will see auxiliary volunteers at blood drives where we provide assistance at the sign in desk, at the canteen and help to greet and escort donors.
We sponsor fundraising events throughout the year. All of our profits benefit the hospital and help to purchase a variety of hospital equipment, furnishings and other needed items. We also provide scholarships for students interested in health care careers and have opened the field to non-clinical employees.
To become a volunteer with the auxiliary, you must be at least 18 years of age and we require that you work a minimum of 50 hours a year to be considered an active member.
The hospital is proud to have our auxiliary volunteers and we are actively seeking to expand our membership to provide additional services. We invite you to join our group of loyal, dedicated volunteers and become part of our family. We need your gift of time and talents.
